The DAF XD Electric and DAF XF Electric will participate in an experimental zero-emission transport program designed for long-distance operations using battery-electric trucks. This project is funded by the British government and is being carried out in collaboration with Innovate UK. The program, called “Vehicle Evaluation and Infrastructure Testing for Emission-Free Heavy Goods Transportation,” is scheduled to last five years.
The UK Government and Innovate UK’s aim with this program is to encourage the adoption of 100% electric long-distance transport and kick-start the establishment of dedicated public charging infrastructure for trucks.
The DAF XD and XF electric tractor units will be deployed in collaboration with major operators including Maritime Transport, Marks & Spencer, Menzies, Royal Mail and Eddie Stobart.
This project follows a recent Battery Electric Truck Trial (BETT) programme, in which 20 DAF LF Electric urban distribution vehicles were used by government entities, including the National Health Service (NHS) and local authorities. The results obtained support DAF Trucks’ position as a leading electric truck manufacturer.
