Road transport fleets request the integration of renewable fuels in decarbonization strategies.
The heavy transport sector, in a conference recently held at the CEOE headquarters, has advocated for the incorporation of renewable fuels in their environmental plans to decarbonize their fleets. During the event, a manifesto signed by 48 entities in the sector, including vehicle manufacturers and transport operators, was endorsed, which requests the recognition of carbon-neutral renewable fuels for heavy road transport.
On the same day, the importance of a technologically neutral regulatory framework was highlighted and the significant contribution of renewable fuels to reducing up to 90% of net CO2 emissions in the sector was emphasized. In addition, regulatory difficulties and the need to diversify the available alternatives without limiting the development of decarbonization technologies were addressed.
At the closing of the event, the strategic role of heavy transport in the Spanish economy was highlighted and stability in the regulatory framework was requested. A realistic energy transition was also proposed, considering the possibilities and needs of each sector. Finally, the importance of having all available technologies was highlighted, pointing out that renewable fuels are essential to address the challenge of decarbonization in the transportation sector.
In relation to mobility, a study revealed that households with greater economic capacity or higher education purchase more hybrid or electric vehicles. Although these vehicles are primarily seen as add-ons, the study indicated that their adoption increases in parallel with the total number of vehicles in a household. Additionally, factors such as housing type and members’ education influence the choice of electric or hybrid vehicles.
